Personal Development at St Thomas'

At St Thomas', we recognise that the primary years are a key time for children to develop their own identity and aspirations for the future. As well as academic development, it is essential that children are given opportunities, through the curriculum and beyond, for personal development. We understand the crucial role we can play in helping children to prepare for their adult lives so they can go on to engage positively in society.

St Thomas' Charitable Pledge

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in" (Matthew 25:35)

As a church school, we believe that generosity is an act of faith and a way to show trust in God.  With your help, St Thomas’ school has always been proud to support national charities such as Children in Need, Comic and Sport Relief and Remembrance Day. We also raise money for those in need during special events in the Christian Calendar, for example during Harvest, when we donate food to our local FoodBank.

At St Thomas', we want  to support the children in each year group in developing a greater level of social responsibility by supporting a charity project chosen by themselves. This will enable our children to work together to raise money for causes close to their hearts or to support charities and charitable projects in different ways. We feel that this will be a great project for our children to show how much they care about others and our community.

Each year group have the opportunity throughout the school year to choose a charity to support. This may come about because of circumstances at home, or in their local community, or through a raised awareness of national and global issues. Pupils will be helped to finalise their plans, coordinate dates and generate publicity for their causes.

In some cases, individual classes will lead the whole school in a charitable event, and in others, classes will fundraise or support a cause within their own class only, particularly if this links with other curriculum areas. Our school council also organise charitable events for national charities such as Children in Need and Save the Children.

We are aware that we ask a lot of our families , and there is no expectation to support all, or any of these causes. As always, we appreciate any support you can give.
